Kaikki kaikessa / All in all

PUHE HELSINGIN TUOMIOKIRKON VIIKKOMESSUSSA 30.11.2017 / a speech about "All in All" (1. Cor 15: 22-28) Rev. Petri Samuel Tikka

Kaikki kaikessa... kaikki kaikessa. Ehkäpä tämäkin tunnettu sanonta juontaa juurensa Raamatusta, sillä 1700-luvun Pipliassa kuulemamme kohdan (1. Kor. 15: 22-28) loppu ilmaistaan näin: "että Jumala kaikki kaikessa olis." Tämä on ymmärretty nykykäännöksessä niin, että "Jumala" lopulta "hallitsee täydellisesti kaikkea".

All in all... all in all. The root of this expression must be in the Bible: "that God may be all in all." (1 Cor 15: 28) In a recent Finnish translation this has been understood to mean that God will rule everything completely. The English expression "all in all" refers to a summary, while the Finnish literal equivalent "kaikki kaikessa" means that something is more important to you than anything else. 

Ja näinhän tietysti on. Miksi muutoin kukaan uskoo Jumalaan kuin toivon tähden. Hyvä saa viimeisen sanan vääryyden keskellä. Elämää ei murskata kuoleman maailmassa. Kaikkea tätä tarkoittaa se, että Jumala hallitsee täydellisesti kaikkea, se, että hän on lopulta kaikki kaikessa kaikille.

God will rule! Why would anyone believe in God otherwise? It's about hope. Goodness will have the last word amidst all the wrongdoing. Life will not be crushed in a world of death. The fact that God will rule everything completely and that he will be All in All - it refers to a future of hope. 

Kristuksen kuninkuus ei koskaan lopu. 300-luvulla vallalla ollut arioilaisuus kuitenkin väitti, että Jeesuksen valtakunta olisi vain väliaikainen. Areiolaiset eivät uskoneet, että Herramme Jeesus on tosi Jumala. Heille ristiinnaulittu Messias ei ollut kaikki kaikessa - ei ainakaan viime kädessä.

The kingship of Christ will have no end. In the 4th century, the Arian understanding of Christ was the predominant view. According to Arians, the Kingdom of Christ was only temporary. Arians didn't believe that our Lord Jesus is true God. All in all, the crucified Messiah wasn't everything to them. 

Tosiasiassa Kristus kuitenkin "kantaa Isän haltuun maailmamme." Hän kumartuu Isän edessä, jotta me kaikki menisimme "polvillemme" ja "Jumala, luoja" saisi ihmiskuntansa kiitoksen. Tähän tapaan laloimme virressä 160, ja näin opettivat myös uskontunnustustemme laatijat, varhaisen kirkon opettajat (kuten Gregorios Nyssalainen). Kristuksen valta ei pääty, vaan hän saattaa jokaisen ihmisen, jopa jokaisen luodun ylistämään Jumalaa.

In fact, Christ carries our world into the Father's hands. That's what His kingship means. He kneels in front of the Father in order that all of us would kneel in worship and God, the Creator, would reveive the thanksgiving of His humanity. A Norwegian hymn says something similar (in Finnish translation), and also the people (such as St. Gregory of Nyssa) who composed the early creeds of Christianity taught along these lines. The reign of Christ will have no end - He shall lead every human being, even every creature that ever existed to praise God. 

Kaikki kaikessa. Murehtiminen on usein.. kaikki kaikessa. Niin vääjämättömästi kaikkea tuntuu hallitsevan pelko. Älkää uskoko tunteisiin. Ne pyrkivät ajamaan meitä menneisyyteen. Näin syntyy pettymysten maailma. Toivo on todellinen tunne, sellainen, joka ei pakota. Toivon kuitenkin aivan yhtä vääjämätöntä kuin katoavaisuus, sillä toivo ohjaa meitä. Ilman toivoa emme jaksaisi hengittää.

All in all. Worrying is often... all in all. It feels like fear rules everything so inexorably. Don't believe in feelings! They try to drive us into dwelling in the past, into a world of regrets. But hope is the real feeling, a feeling that doesn't force us. Hope is as inexorable as mortality, for hope drives us. Without hope we couldn't breathe. 

Kristus on toivon vahvistus. Hän on naulinnut katkeraksi käyneen lain ristille. Enää ei ole edes sisäistä vaatimusta - ei edes kohti rakkautta. Ei, ei ole vaatimusta, sillä on vain todellisuus. Rakkaus on noussut haudastaan. Jumala, Kristus, Rakkaus: hän on todellisuus, joka on läsnä, hän tulee olemaan kaikki kaikessa, aivan kaikki kaikissa.

Christ confirms hope - He's the one who does it. He has crucified the law that became bitter, that embittered us. No longer is there even an inner demand - not even towards love! No, there is no demand, only the reality remains. Love has risen from the dead. God, Christ, Love: He is the reality that is present, He will be all in all, absolutely everything in everyone.
