Exaudi

Here is the Psalm for this Exaudi ("hear!") Sunday and a Finnish hymn based on that. Their idea: you don't have to be afraid of what people think of you. Truly brave is the one who dares to call upon the One who is Reality himself. The one who relies solely on oneself lacks stability. Tripping on one's own cleverness is a natural outcome. Inherent stability is living under the eye of the Triune God. He is the well of love that is real - not agreeable acceptance or tacky tolerance. This love is powerful, passionate and potent. The love of the Lord of reality has created you - and the whole universe.

pyrkii turvautumaan itseensä kaikessa, on vailla vakaata pohjaa.

(Ps. 27: 7)

Herra on minun valoni ja apuni,
ketä minä pelkäisin?
Herra on minun elämäni turva,
ketä siis säikkyisin?
Kun vainoojat käyvät minua kohti
iskeäkseen hampaansa minuun, he itse kaatuvat,
vihamieheni ja vastustajani suistuvat maahan.
Vaikka sotajoukko saartaisi minut,
sydämeni ei pelkäisi,
vaikka minua vastaan nousisi sota,
ei minulla olisi mitään hätää.
Herra, kuule, kun huudan sinua!
Ole minulle armollinen, vastaa pyyntööni.
Sydämeni muistaa sinun sanasi:
"Etsikää minun kasvojani."
Herra, minä tahdon etsiä sinua,
älä kätke minulta kasvojasi!
Älä vihastu, älä torju palvelijaasi,
sinä olet aina ollut minun apuni.
Älä nytkään jätä minua, älä hylkää,
sinä Jumalani, sinä auttajani!
(Ps. 27: 1-3, 7-9)

Kunnia Isälle ja Pojalle
ja Pyhälle Hengelle,
niin kuin oli alussa, nyt on ja aina,
iankaikkisesta iankaikkiseen.
Aamen.
Antiphone:

Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud,
be gracious to me and answer me!
(Psalm 27:7)

The Lord is my light and my salvation;
   whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
When evildoers assail me
   to devour my flesh—
my adversaries and foes—
   they shall stumble and fall.
Though an army encamp against me,
   my heart shall not fear;
though war rise up against me,
   yet I will be confident.
Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud,
be gracious to me and answer me!
‘Come,’ my heart says, ‘seek his face!’
Your face, Lord, do I seek.
Do not hide your face from me.
Do not turn your servant away in anger,
you who have been my help.
Do not cast me off, do not forsake me,
   O God of my salvation!
(Psalm 27:1-3, 7-9)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud,

be gracious to me and answer me!

P.S. (Psalmi 27:10) Rakkaus on rajatonta; äidin rakkaus on Jumalan rakkauden ilmentymää. Jumala loi äidit, _koska_ hän on kaikkialla yhtäaikaa! :-)

P.S. On mother's day, one often hears a half-humorous statement that God created mothers because He can't be everywhere at the same time. But actually: "If my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will take me up. " (Psalm 27:10) Love is limitless; a mother's love is an expression of God's own personal love. God created mothers _because_ He is everywhere at the same time! :-)
